A Piece for the Library

September 2013 – May 2014 / KV Wiesbaden / Series of rehearsals, workshops, score writing and exhibition / In collaboration with Wiesbaden Boys Choir and the music class of the Oranienschool Wiesbaden (both with the guidance of Roman Twardy), as well as in collaboration with University- and State Library Rhein- Main Wiesbaden.

Read-in and its collaborators developed a score and choreography that consists of a scripted series of sounds and silences made in a public library while studying and reading. The pieces investigate how silence is constituted through the physicality of reading, library etiquette, the books being read, architecture, as well as the different categorisations within the library. The score and choreography are developed with the participants during public library hours. The ‘Library Piece’ is interwoven with the everyday of the library and its working atmosphere while at the same time aiming to transgress its existent categories by means of performance.

It investigates how this silence is constituted thought the physicality of reading, library etiquette, the books being read, architecture, as well as the different categorizations within the library.
