Read-in Florence
2012 / 15 – 18 September / Upon the invitation to travel to Florence for ‘Oh Seminar!’ at Villa Romana, the Read-in collective started brewing questions around what it means for their practice to go “on tour”.
What modes of address could be tried out in the spaces of leisure, labour and knowledge around the Villa Romana and touristic centres? With English as Read-in’s default language of tuition, how would this function when entering private (Italian) homes or queueing outside the Uffizi? What would this mean in terms of hospitality, hosting and accommodation? The Read-in collective invites you to a series of events where we continue our research into the physicality of reading and the “situatedness” of any kind of reading activity. For this we will continue exploring specific formats corresponding to the above questions, adding further questions on collective translation, memorizing and tourism.
